International Service Availability Symposium: ISAS 2006

What are the issues?

  • Increased need of availability and security features in systems
  • Information and Communication Standards evolution
  • Evolving network and software architectures
  • Open standards for HA service development (composition)

Who should attend?

The objective of this Symposium is to bring together researchers and practitioners from different "service" related areas within both industry and academia. We specially encourage original papers addressing problems of service availability at all layers, including experience on:

  • Service Implementations: What services are under development and how can their availability requirements be addressed by standards, such as those specified by the SA Forum?
  • Service Deployment and Operation: What are the critical issues in the roll-out of services and what is important for the uninterrupted deployment of service updates?
  • Information and Communication Infrastructure: What is the state of the art in dependable infrastructure and what standards are available for use? What products are on the market or under development based on those standards?

What topics should be discussed at the conference?

All areas of service oriented computing are solicited, including but not limited to:

  • Availability standards for service implementation, certification, support
  • Availability issues in open service platforms
  • Composition - specification, coordination, conformance, monitoring, QoS
  • Service infrastructures - hardware, software, middleware, networks
  • Service development, analysis, testing - models, environments, tools
  • Service requirement - availability, deployment, upgrades
  • Service management - certification, rating, service agreements, support
  • Interfaces for service implementers - usability, security and availability
  • Java programming environments and application server availability
  • Service Oriented Architectures: dependability benefits and open problems
  • Modeling, measuring and implementing dependability and security of integrated information and communication services
  • How network mechanisms support dependability of ICT services
  • User aspects of service availability - dependability, performance, security

Manuscripts should be submitted (and clearly indicated) as either Regular Papers or Practical Experience Reports. Regular Papers should describe original, unpublished work on current research and novel ideas. Practical Experience Reports should describe an experience or a case study. Submissions whose contributions are supported by experimental evaluations are strongly encouraged.

The title page should include the title of the paper, author name(s), affiliations, mailing address, e-mail address, a maximum of 150-word abstract, five keywords and the submission category. The format of submissions for review should be single-column, 11-point font size and double-spaced: Not more than 20 pages for Regular Papers and not more than 12 pages for Practical Experience Reports including figures, tables and references. All papers should be submitted to the conference web sites: www.saforum.org/ISAS2006 or www.cs.helsinki.fi/events/isas2006/

Contributions and publications

Accepted papers and abstracts will be published in the Symposium Proceedings in a special volume of Springer’s Lecture Notes in Computer Science series.

The deadline for paper submissions is January 9, 2006.
